Althea
- Althea (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol) 2mg/35mcg (cyproterone + ethinylestradiol) is a contraception in women and helps control acne and hirsutism. It is used to regulate menstrual cycle, reduction of premenstrual tension, and as a relief from pain and excessive bleeding during the menstrual period.
- Dosage and administration: 1 tab starting on the first day of the menstrual flow for 21 days. Start with a new pack after 7 pill free days. The patient can start any day as long as the patient is not pregnant Interval of pills should be 24 hours
- Althea has contraindications to patients with: Impaired liver functions Hepatic adenoma estrogen-dependent neoplasms such as breast or endometrial cancer Dubin-Johnson or Rotor syndromes Cardiovascular disease disorders of lipid metabolism undiagnosed vaginal bleeding Possible pregnancy Althea is not recommended for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers as it can reduce the volume production of breastmilk.
- Althea precautions are advised for people with: Risk factor for cardiovascular disease Gall-bladder disease History of clinical depression Varicose veins Condition influenced by fluid retention Sickle-cell disease Regular consultation with a healthcare provider is advised while taking Althea.
