Diamicron (Gliclazide)1 Tablet
- Diamicron 80 mg (Gliczalide 80 mg, Diamicron) is an antidiabetic sulfonylurea, that increases insulin sensitivity peripheral target sites by triggering the release of pancreatic ß-cells and diminishing insulin uptake and glucose. It is used for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes in cases wherein dietary measures failed.
- Dosage and administration of Diamicron: Initially, 40-80 mg daily gradually increased to 320 mg daily if necessary. >160 mg daily are given in 2 divided doses. Modified-release tab: Initially, 30 mg daily, may increase in increments of 30 mg up to max 120 mg daily if necessary. The interval between each dose increment must be at least 1 month. For non-respondent patients, the dose may be increased after 2 weeks. Dosages are measured individually based on the patient's glucose level.
- Gliclazide 80 mg has contraindications to: Hypersensitivity Sulfonylureas or Sulphonamides Type 1 diabetes, Diabetic pre-coma and coma Diabetic keto-acidosis Severe renal and hepatic impairment Concomitant use with miconazole pregnancy and lactation. Diamicron has precautions for people with: Patient who has risk factors of hypoglycemia With a poor intake of carbohydrates or imbalanced diet Stress-related states G6PD-deficiency Mild to moderate hepatic and renal impairment.
